Attitude is everything when it comes to dieting and weight loss programs. The right attitude is what spells success or failure, more than anything else.
Why is it that some individuals can follow all of the tenets of a diet program and stay with it until they meet their goals, while others have a rockier course? Those who struggle for success have not learned an important secret: Your thoughts control your actions.
If you want to lose weight, I recommend that you adopt a positive attitude. A forward outlook helps you achieve your dreams, no matter what they are. Whether you are trying to lose weight, become a champion in the sports arena, or build a new business, your success depends on your frame of mind.
If you have trouble focusing on the positive aspects of weight loss, you will feel deprived. You may feel the need to “cheat” and find the whole diet thing quite an ordeal. You may dislike exercise or find that you have frequent excuses for not fitting it in to your schedule.
Are you guilty of these negative thought patterns? If so, you may be destined to fail before you even get started!.
- I hate to exercise.
- I feel so fat, everybody thinks I’m fat, I’m so ugly, ….
- Diets don’t work for me.
- I’m overweight because of my genes. It’s beyond my control.
- I can’t control my appetite.
- I need a weight loss pill, weight loss surgery, hypnotism, magic…
- I’m so stressed.
- I don’t have time to exercise, plan meals, …
- I can’t live without my French fries, desserts, soft drinks, potato chips, …
- I’m desperate, nothing works.
- Gastric bypass surgery is my only option.
So, if you want to be more successful with your weight loss, I suggest that you turn your thinking around. Think positive thoughts. For instance, focus on the foods that make you healthy. Set a goal of eating 3 or more vegetables a day. Plan to drink more water. Eat regular meals. Find exercise regimens that are enjoyable to you. Think about how much stronger, slimmer, and healthier you are becoming each day.
Realize that success comes in small steps. Pat yourself on the back each time you make a healthy choice. But avoid beating yourself up over backslides. Just dust yourself off, continue to look forward, and keep going along your path to your weight loss goal.
